2. Anti – Vibration Packaging

We secure the cover tightly to the lathe using straps or ropes. This not only keeps the dust out but also gives an extra layer of physical protection.

4. Outer Packing for Shipping

Once the lathe is wrapped and protected from vibration, moisture, and dust, it’s time for the outer packing. The most common outer packing material for a spherical lathe is a wooden crate.

The wooden crate is custom – built to fit the size of the lathe. It’s made of strong and thick wooden planks. The inner walls of the crate can be lined with more foam or other cushioning materials for additional protection. The crate is then sealed with nails or screws.

We also add some handling instructions on the crate. These instructions include things like "This Side Up" and "Handle with Care". This helps the shipping workers to handle the crate properly and reduces the risk of damage during loading and unloading.

5. Securing the Lathe in the Shipping Container

If the spherical lathe is being shipped in a container, we need to make sure it’s properly secured inside the container. We use chains or ropes to tie the wooden crate to the floor or the walls of the container. This prevents the crate from moving around during the journey.

We also add some dunnage inside the container. Dunnage can be made of materials like wooden blocks or metal bars. It’s placed between the crate and the container walls to fill any gaps. This helps to further stabilize the crate and prevent it from shifting due to the movement of the container.

6. Testing the Packaging

Before we ship out a spherical lathe, we always test the packaging. We simulate the transportation process as realistically as possible. This involves dropping the crate from a small height (according to international shipping standards) and subjecting it to some vibrations.

If the packing passes these tests, it means the lathe is well – protected and ready for shipping. If there are any signs of damage during the tests, we go back and make adjustments to the packaging, such as adding more cushioning materials or reinforcing the wooden crate.
